Why I’m FOR Cheryl changing her name
Closer's Kayleigh Dray thinks that the idea of Cheryl keeping the name Cole is baffling, and that her happiness is more important than her brand.
Seriously, are we having this debate? Why shouldn't Cheryl drop the 'Cole' - her ex-husband's name - and embrace a new future with her partner? If that's what she WANTS to do?
Just like you would ditch your old wedding ring (and presumably take the wedding photo off the wall before your new hubby moves in), Cheryl is starting her marriage with a clean slate.

A friend of Cheryl told The Sun, “Cheryl’s very traditional and will take JB’s name. He’s the man she plans to spend the rest of her life with. She kept the Cole name after her divorce from Ashley as it felt like a backwards step reverting to Tweedy. But this is a very different situation.”
“Madame Fernandez-Versini has a definite ring to it.”
Well, quite.
Overall, I think this name change can only be a good thing for Cheryl. She's embracing love and life - she's putting her happiness ahead of her 'brand' and she's realised she can make a name for herself without using her ex-husband's surname.
And, before you start, no it doesn't make her anti-feminist; feminism is about being in control, making your own decisions and staying true to yourself.
No matter what name Cheryl has, her initials, her signature, and what name people refer to her as makes so little difference in the big picture.
What does make a huge difference is what's in her core, what's in her heart, and what she gives to the world.
Go get 'em, Madame Fernandez-Versini!
Why I'm AGAINST Cheryl changing her name
Jack White thinks Cheryl should not have even considered dropping the Cole and that everything she’s worked for will now suffer.
The nation's sweetheart shouldn’t be Cheryl Fernandez-Versin, her brand is Cheryl Cole. By dropping Cole, she is dropping her identity.
Sure, she gets the name from her 'love rat' ex husband, but he’s not the first thing that comes to mind when you hear her name: her music, The X Factor and her amazing hair are.

Her surname is essentially her business – you wouldn’t expect River Island to suddenly drop the Island part of its name, would you?
Privately- for bills, credit cards etc- taking Jean Bernard Fernandez-Versin’s name is her prerogative. But professionally she should remain as Cole.
Personally I find it much more empowering when women are keen to hold onto to some aspect of their independence, and Cheryl hasn’t worked as hard as she has just to start conforming to her new husband.
I totally agreed with her when she swapped Tweedy for Cole: she was excited, young and in love.
In another nod to her fierce independence, the name ‘Cole’ was the only thing she wanted to keep in the divorce.
She didn’t want a penny of Ashley’s footballing fortune, but she was business savvy enough to know that she would forever be professionally known as Cheryl Cole.
Cheryl is one of the country’s most famous and fascinating women, so why is she trying to fix something that isn’t broken.
And, honestly, Cheryl Fernandez-Versin just doesn’t have the same ring to it…
