Bindi Irwin first captured the nation’s heart when she appeared on dad Steve Irwin’s hit show ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ as a little girl in from 1997 to 2004.

And fans across the world grieved with the her when Steve died after being stung by a Stingray as he filmed footage for his hit show.

Sadly Bindi’s relationship with her grandfather Bob Irwin didn’t survive the tragedy, with a rift reportedly forming between the Australian and Steve’s wife Terri.

In 2010 Bob told the Australian Sunday Mail that relations had soured between him and Terri, claiming he was being prevented from seeing Bindi and her brother Robert.

Terri didn’t comment on the accusations at the time, but just days ago 17-year-old Bindi opened up about the family rift.

"Everyone deals with grief differently," Bindi told The Daily Mail Australia.

"At the moment we're really just respecting his wishes because he hasn't had anything to do with us for a long time and he decided his own path," she added.

"That's important, so good for him.”

But it appears Bob has nothing but love for his grandchildren, and following Bindi’s amazing win in Dancing With The Stars, he told The Herald Sun he was ‘enormously proud’ of his granddaughter.

Aw! We really hope they work things out.
