Mean Girls
Where would we be without Mean Girls?! This early 00s classic captured perfectly what it’s like to be a teen girl in High School, with all the bullying, backstabbing and bitching that goes with it. Told with humour and starring an impressive cast including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Tina Fey, this is THE best movie to kick off your night in with the girls.
Disney’s Frozen
If you’re in the need to be empowered, Frozen isn’t just for the kids. Behind the dazzling animation is an important message about sisterhood and avoiding bad boys. Throw in an amazing costume change and makeover scene, and the catchiest soundtrack in years and you’ve got a recipe for a surprisingly feel-good chick flick.
The Fault in our Stars
Sometimes, all you want to do is cuddle up with your mates and watch a good weepie (because let’s be honest, you’re probably not going to get your other half in on the action). Our favourite of the moment is The Fault in our Stars - the heart-breaking tale of a teenage cancer sufferer whose life is changed for the better through a chance meeting. Tissues at the ready, this one is an emotional rollercoaster.
The Devil Wears Prada
Ever wondered what it’s like working at a fashion magazine? Well wonder no longer. This hilarious film starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep is based on a true story, and features the hilarious lengths one woman will go to in order to make a name for herself in the cut throat magazine industry.
The Notebook
Is there a more romantic tale in modern cinema? We think not. This has both Ryan Gosling AND our ultimate girl crush Rachel McAdams, and they make the perfect on screen couple. That scene in the rain? We just can’t.
Thelma & Louise
Firmly on our favourite films list for over 20 years now, this has to be the ultimate movie about the power of female friendship. After a terrible series of events leads the two women to go on the run, they are tested to their limits in their quest to survive. Also starring a young Brad Pitt, this is one girls’ movie not to be missed.
Pretty Woman
One of the most popular chick flicks of all time, this unconventional love story is one of our favourites. When a wealthy businessman enlists the help of call girl Vivian (played by the radiant Julia Roberts), hilarity ensues, as the original ‘hooker with a heart of gold’ tries to come to terms with Edward’s upper class world. But as it turns out, Vivian has a fair few things to teach Edward about love, life and having fun – something which he realises just in time.
Juno
When Juno shot onto screens back in 2007, a hole in our lives was filled. Centred around a sixteen year old high-schooler who accidentally falls pregnant, this is a surprisingly feel-good movie about the difficult decisions to be made during unexpected pregnancy. Clever, witty and with an impeccable soundtrack, this is fantastic choice for a girls’ movie night.
Charlie’s Angels
Is there a more kick ass threesome than Cameron, Drew and Lucy in Charlie’s Angels? Rebooting a classic, this is the perfect superhero movie for girls – proving that crime fighting superstars can also be super sassy, beautiful and fearless. Anyone else literally want to BE Cameron Diaz dancing in her pants in this movie? Just us then.
