Fifteen years ago, Coronation Street fans watched as Kevin Webster (Michael LeVell) was tragically forced to bury his baby son Jake after he was born with an infection called Group B Strep.
The death of baby Jake lead to his then-wife Alison stealing Sarah-Louise Platt’s baby Bethany, before she threw herself into the path of an oncoming lorry as she struggled to deal with her grief.
However, due to a script oversight, Corrie bosses never mentioned any of this throughout the Jenny Bradley kidnapping storyline.
Kevin even said at one point: "Must be hard burying one of your kids.”
Twice on Monday night, Rita said to Kevin that it must have been very hard on Jenny, losing her child.
Kevin, again, failed to comment that he knew how she felt; instead, he simply stared silently into the distance.
Now, the chief executive of charity Group B Strep Support has said that Coronation Street missed its opportunity to raise awareness about the potentially fatal bacteria.
According to Coronation Street Updates, Jane Plumb MBE, chief executive of Group B Strep Support, said: "It is disappointing because it was such an incredible story line at the time. It was probably one of the first times that the words 'group B Strep' had reached a national audience and the awareness that it raised was enormous.
“Jake's mum committed suicide as a result. It was very powerful and emotional.
“In reality, nobody forgets the death of their baby."
Meanwhile soap boss Stuart Blackburn has apologised for the oversight, telling The Sun: "I'd like to thank viewers who spotted our mistake.
"Our episodes go through many drafts and are scrutinised by many people, but on this occasion we did make a mistake."
