Queen fans woke up this morning to the news that Sacha Baron Cohen has been chosen to play Freddie Mercury in a new film about the world-famous musician.
Queen manager Jim Beach confirmed the news on Friday night.
According to The Sun, he said: “You have probably followed the saga of the famous Queen-Freddie Mercury biopic which has been developing in Hollywood for the last seven years.
“An important breakthrough is that we have now managed to persuade Sacha Baron Cohen to write, produce and direct this movie, and he has also agreed to star.”
According to reports, the 43-year-old Borat actor was first choice to play the legendary rocker, who passed away from AIDS in November 1991.
The film will be a more serious role for Sacha, who made his name with comedy movies such as Bruno and his world-famous TV series, Ali G.
