It’s been reported that ‘dozens’ of Love Island contestants have been left gutted after receiving the axe from the upcoming new series due to failing a surprise drug test.
It’s believed that this is the first time that potential contestants have undergone drug tests, but with increased aftercare being implemented this year, show producers are supposedly keen to pick ‘clean living contestants’ who are ‘mentally and physically healthy’.
According to the Star on Sunday, a numbers of hopefuls were found with “cocaine, ketamine and cannabis” in the system and were removed from the show.
A source told the publication: “Contestants had to provide a urine sample, which was then tested.
“They weren’t warned, so it came as a surprise. But that’s the only way to do it. If people are told way in advance, they can take steps to avoid getting caught.”
The insider added: “The dozens who were caught were gutted. Some of them were really good contenders who would have probably made it into the final line up."
Closer Online have contacted Love Island’s representatives for comment.
