During Love Island 2018, Frankie Foster won over a throng of fans, with his smooth chat, washboard abs, and Hugh Grant-esque curtain hair.

Before going into the villa he was student and fitness coach but since his Love Island stint, Frankie has followed his heart and love for horses, forging a successful career covering race day commentary - a seamless transition from reality star to racing pundit.

Gone are the times of sun-soaked flirting and six-pack flaunting poolside in Mallorca. Nowadays, you’ll find the Barbour-clad heartthrob trackside, reporting from the likes of Cheltenham and Aintree racecourse.

And when Frankie isn’t busy commentating, you can find him coaching clients with their health and fitness goals. Having played semi-professional ruby prior to Love Island, he’s an expert on functional fitness and a passionate advocate of movement for mental health. Is there anything this man can’t do?!

We pulled Frankie for a chat to hear all about his wellness secrets. Here’s how the 27-year-old looks after his mind, body and spirit…

How often do you exercise and what do you like to do?

“I love working out, whether that be lifting weights, swimming or running. It keeps me physically and mentally well. If I haven’t worked out, I tend to feel restless, so I try and fit some form of movement into my routine every day, even if it it’s just a brisk walk. I’m toying with the idea of doing a triathlon at some point, so that will see me introducing more cycling into my training.”

Do you have any rituals to help you go to sleep?

“I’ll admit I’m not the model sleeper - I tend to wake up a few times in the night. However, I have found that keeping the tech out of the bedroom really helps my sleep quality. I’ll leave my phone downstairs and set an alarm for the morning.”

What books have you read recently which you’ve loved?

“If you’d asked me this a few years ago, I wouldn’t have an answer. It’s only since last year that I got into reading. I don’t think I’d picked up a book since school before then! Recently, I’ve felt so much better for spending 20 minutes a day reading a self-development book. I like to go to a café, order a coffee and spend that dedicated time in my day reading. My favourite has to be Shoe Dog - the memoir of Nike founder Phil Knight. Atomic Habits was also a great read, it’s filled with loads of insightful tips and tricks.”

What’s your afternoon pick-me-up?

“If I’m feeling sluggish or lethargic, I’ll head out on a walk. The fresh air perks me back up again. It’s like a natural shot of espresso.”

Frankie Foster is an ambassador for In The Paddock and will be presenting for Racing TV during the Randox Grand National Festival 13-15 April. To find out more visit greatbritishracing.com
