When EastEnders resident Nancy Carter came onto our screens in 2014 she caused a ruckus within her family and the rest of the Square.
She's been on/off screen since then so we thought we’d take a look back at Nancy and her time in Albert Square...

Maddy is an actor from Hackney, London. She has been acting since 2012 and has appeared in Casualty, as well as Celebrity Masterchef and The Great Sport Relief Bake Off.
Who was Maddy Hill in EastEnders?
If you watched EastEnders in 2014, you may know that Maddy played Nancy Carter.
What happened to Nancy Carter?
Over the years Nancy was involved in big storylines.
She burst onto our screens wearing a tracksuit at her wedding to Wayne Ladlow (Malachi Kirby) but it didn't go ahead when Mick Cartercarried her out of the ceremony.
During her time in Walford, Nancy was held hostage by Dean Wicks at The Queen Vic and constantly supported her family. However her biggest storyline surrounded her battle with epilepsy. After leaving Albert Square in 2016 and then returning in 2021, viewers saw how epilepsy still affected Nancy when she babysat Sharon Watts’son Albe.
Another one of Nancy's storylines was marrying Tamwar Masood. They faced some hurdles from their families and their own battles, but stayed together before leaving Walford in 2019.
However after two years, Nancy returned Walford and told her dad Mick that because she didn't want children because of her health battle, it caused the end of her marriage to Tamwar.
Why did Nancy and Zack break up?
After returning to E20, Nancy dated Zack Hudson (James Farrar) on/off.
They first started dating after they slept together but things came to a halt after her half-sister Frankie Lewis (Rose Ayling-Ellis), ran her over during driving a lesson with Zack.
The two then split and Mick banned Zack from seeing his daughter. However, the two of them eventually rekindled their friendship and later again became a couple again, even opening a restaurant together.
But it wasn’t to last as Nancy caught Zack in bed with Sam Mitchell, and she ended their relationship for good.
Why did Nancy leave EastEnders?
In June 2022, Maddy spoke about leaving EastEnders and said in a statement, "It's been great revisiting Nancy and the Square over the past year but it felt like the right time to move on for now. I already miss everyone and feel so grateful to work with people I have so much love for."
Nancy’s exit story was focused on not being able to trust her mum Linda (Kellie Bright) who had been struggling with alcoholism and her heartbreak over Zack, and so she decided to leave Walford to go and stay with her brother Johnny (Ted Reilly) in Manchester.
Is Maddy Hill returning to EastEnders?
As she only just left again, we don’t think she will, but she did say "for now" in her statement so we reckon we could definitely see her on our screens again soon.
What is Maddy Hill doing now?
After her 2022 departure, she has gone back to the stage and is currently in a UK touring production for Of Mice and Men.
