TV presenter Cherry Healy joined women who stripped to their bikinis and marched through London yesterday
The ‘flashmob’ brought together women with bodies of all shapes and sizes to promote body positivity and protest against increasingly narrow beauty ideals.
The lovely ladies donned their bikinis in the city heat and looked GREAT while marching through Soho with placards carrying body mantras such as: ‘‘All bodies are beach bodies".
Broadcaster Cherry, 37, was filming for a TV show about body image which will air on W, and was encouraged to get in on the action. The event was also documented by renowned photographer Rankin for a series called Portrait Positive which will be shown at the National Portrait gallery later this year.
Very swanky.
Campaigner Natasha Devon MBE, 37, who has a 30cm scar running the length of her abdomen following life-saving surgery in 2013, organised the fantastic event as part of her Body Positivity campaign.
She said: “The campaign is about abolishing any kind of ideal and allowing people with a diverse range of body types to celebrate their bodies. I think this flashmob conveyed that message.”
Natasha added: “It was very far from easy for me to strip down to my bikini for this flashmob. I’m 37, a size 16 and scarred - not exactly society’s ideal. But knowing I’m doing it for the millions of young people who struggle with body dysmorphia and eating disorders gave me the courage I needed.”
This comes after recent disheartening news that 52% of 12-14 year olds avoid every day school activities because they dislike how they look, and that girls as young as five believe society values them more for their appearance than for their achievements or character.
We think the women look AMAZING and we fully support their mission to celebrate every shape out there.
