Do you suffer from painful cold sores? Don’t waste time hiding and cover yourself with these hints and tips...

Anti viral creams and tablets

These treatments - though costly - are an effective way to treat painful and irritating cold sores. The sooner you use them the better, so if you feel a slight tingling be sure to apply cream or take an anti-viral tablet as soon as possible.

Cold sore patches

Along with anti-viral creams, cold sore patches should be applied as soon as you feel the onset of a cold sore. Cold sore patches are discreet and can help speed up the healing of the sore.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera has soothing properties which makes it a perfect treatment for painful cold sores.

Reducing stress

Cold sores can often appear during stressful periods when your immune system is slightly weaker. Try and make time for yourself during the winter months: have a hot bath in the evenings and relax with a book. Turn your phone off and take a breather. The effect this will have on your immune system and stress levels will be incredible.

Ice cubes

Ice cubes are a VERY cheap and effective way of soothing a cold sore. When you feel one coming on simply hod some ice to the affected area. Simples!

Covering with makeup

If you want to cover your cold sore with foundation or concealer, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly both before and after. Apply the amount of concealer you want on your hand and use either your finger or a clean brush to apply. ALWAYS wash your make up brushes afterwards to make sure the virus doesn’t spread.
