Yes, we’re deadly serious.

Experts at an American university have found that keeping your toothbrush in the same room as your toilet turns it into a turd magnet.

Every time you flush with an open lid, bacteria spray into the air around your toilet.

And some of these germs could pass along symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting.

Which means it’s extremely bad news that they’ve been landing on your toothbrush…

Check it out:

"The main concern is not with the presence of your own fecal matter on your toothbrush," said Lauren Aber, a researcher at Quinnipiac University.

“[It's] when a toothbrush is contaminated with fecal matter from someone else, which contains bacteria, viruses or parasites."

After analysing toothbrushes in bathrooms used by nine people or more, the study revealed that about 60% were packed full of other people's poo.

Which means that every single time you let someone else use your toilet, they could actually be bombarding your brush with harmful bacteria.

Aber added that using a toothbrush cover will actually make things worse, as it creates a nice, moist area for bacteria to grow on your toothbrush.

Instead, experts have advised that you try keeping your dental hygiene tools in a cupboard (or another room) .

And, from us here at Closer HQ, we suggest that you ALWAYS keep the lid down when you’re flushing.
