Coffee is our go-to drink when we’ve had a late night and need to perk ourselves up a little.

And, as it turns out, it can also be used to perk other things up as well.

Scientists have discovered that men who drink 85mg and 170mg of caffeine daily are 42% less likely to report erectile dysfunction than those who drank none.

For those wondering, a cup of instant coffee contains around 100mg of caffeine, according to the NHS.

And that even applied to men who were more at risk of ED, such as those who were overweight, obese, or suffered from high blood pressure.

So how does it work?

Well, according to the clever folks at the University of Texas, caffeine helps to relax the arteries in the penis, increasing blood flow.

However it doesn’t work on everyone.

Lead author of the study David Lopez said: "Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of ED with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes.

“Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for ED, so this was not surprising."
