As working out on holiday becomes THE fitness trend of 2019, model and reality star Danielle Lloyd tells us how to have fun in the sun while staying fit - and we give you the pick on the best active getaways on the market

With the latest shots of Spencer Matthews and Vogue Williams out for a jog on the beach in St Barts, Gisele practicing her yoga moves in tropical paradise and Lauren Goodger recently boxing in Portugal - it seems everyone is working out on their hols.

And now Danielle Lloyd - who is mum to Archie, eight, Harry, seven, George, four and Ronnie, one - says it is possible to have fun on holiday and stick to your fitness regime.

The model says: "Going on holiday is an excellent opportunity to relax and get stuck into fitness - it's all about balance. You can find things that you enjoy doing and get that buzz of endorphins.

"There's nothing worse than coming back from holiday feeling unfit and back to square one. You'll be out in the outdoors and getting active which will leave you feeling great."

Here Danielle, who has just launched a new fitness collection 'Strength' with Oh Arthur, gives us her top tips:

  1. When you're on holiday, find yourself a workout buddy who you can have a laugh with. I'm lucky that my fiancé Michael loves fitness so we can always find something that we find fun together.
  1. Mix it up! When you go away, you can find out if your hotel does any fitness classes or if any interesting ones are offered locally. If there's nothing available, you can always download a routine on your iPad and follow something online.
  1. If you don't fancy doing anything hardcore, a brisk walk on beach or some laps in the swimming pool is better than nothing. If possible, try to do 20 minutes a day. Make sure you get a good night's sleep too to let your body recover.
  1. Drink plenty of water - especially if you are in a hot country, you never want to feel dehydrated.
  1. If you have children and you find it difficult to have any time working out by yourself, you can involve them! For example, I have often found myself doing baby lifts above my head with my youngest son Ronnie. You can always think of fun games that will have you all running around.
  1. Use your environment. If you are by the sea, why not try something new like kayaking, paddle-boarding, snorkeling or surfing. You can use exercise to go on a bit of an adventure. In the countryside, you could try going on a long bike ride or a challenging hike. There are lots of companies now that offer bespoke adventures to give yourself that extra push.

And the co-founder of Much Better Adventures Sam Bruce says anyone can tap into the latest trend to workout on holiday and give yourself an interesting challenge.

He says: "Adventure holidays are on the rise because they offer the play-hard to our work-hard lifestyles. Getting out into nature offers urban dwellers a new lease of life. As a species, we’re not made to spend our entire lives chained to a desk, worrying about work.

"Adventures, wild places, even if just for a few days, can refresh the soul and make us feel human again in ways that sitting by a pool simply can't - and as scientists have pointed out regularly in recent years - be a much-needed boost to our physical and mental wellbeing ."
