Because new claims have suggested that getting a ‘daith piercing’ can actually cure you of the painful plague of headaches.
A daith piercing - which goes through the ear’s innermost cartilage fold - uses the power of pressure points to alleviate sufferers’ pain, with many people on social media attesting to its success.
One Twitter user, calling herself Melinda Slagle, said: ’33 days headache and migraine free! Daith piercing has saved my life!’
And while there doesn’t appear to be any medical evidence to support faith piercings being a migraine cure, Dr Thomas Cohn says this doesn’t mean it won’t work for some sufferers.
Taking to his blog, he wrote: ‘Recently, some people who have received a Daith piercing have coincidentally found improvement with their migraine headaches. It is not universal, and it is has not been studied formally.’
‘If a person enjoys ear piercing and suffers from frequent headaches, it may be worthwhile to consider getting this spot pierced. Since body piercings are generally less than $100, this may be a very economical treatment alternative.’
