It's been an interesting week. I've had a stomach bug and it's been a little unpleasant.
I had a huge panic on Sunday and again on Monday because the pain was so immense I thought I was going into preterm labour.
Luckily, although all the signs seemed to point in that direction, the pain passed and speaking to my midwife Virginia she was certain it wasn't labour.
Thankfully I'm now feeling a lot better, although I've still got a few niggles which I've been told will last a few days - I've managed to flush the bug out by drinking plenty of water.
Why is it that when you get any ailments, you can't help yourself but Google it! It's the absolute worst thing you can do.
Not only did I convince myself the baby was arriving very early, on the web it said that my symptoms were normal with preterm labour when having TWINS.
Well, my mind certainly went into over-active mode. "Is that why I'm measuring bigger than my due date?", "They can miss things on scans", "I'm feeling non-stop kicking, probably because there are two in there”. Yep, I drove myself insane!
With all these crazy thoughts, I came across some mad pregnancy stories. One woman gave birth to twins and they had different dads- how bonkers is that. The longest lasting pregnancy to date is 1 year and 10 days. The largest surviving baby is 22bls 8oz. OUCH! I could go on and on, the Internet has thousands of stories but the worst part about it is you end up having the craziest of dreams.
And why is that? Why do you have the most craziest and vivid dreams when you're pregnant? Well after another Google session this is what I found out.
Usually you'll cycle through levels of sleep during the night. You'll drift from drowsiness to light sleep and on to rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. This is when you’ll experience most of your dreams, before you drift into deep sleep. Then you'll come back up again through REM sleep and light sleep before going down again.
During pregnancy there's more likely to be something that brings you to the surface and wakes you up, disturbing your sleep cycle. Whether it's leg cramps, needing the loo or just trying to get comfortable, something's likely to keep you from your deepest slumber.
Having your sleep interrupted makes it more likely you’ll remember your dreams. That's why it seems as if you're having more dreams, and because you're remembering them so clearly, they seem particularly vivid.
So there you have it!
We are so close to finishing our renovations, we're just waiting for some furniture to be delivered and then I can put my feet up and do very little until the baby arrives. I'm really excited for all the nursery furniture to arrive. We've ordered the 'Lucas' Bambini 5 piece set in white. Once it's all finished I'll post a pic.
Have a great week everyone!
