If you're looking for a classy hotel with a calming and relaxing spa situated in rolling countryside, look no further than Armathwaite Hall.
The Lake District must be one of the most perfect places for a spa in the whole of the UK. There's beautiful scenery everywhere you look, and the backdrop of England's biggest mountains could fool you into thinking you're in some Scandinavian suburbs.
Thankfully, the stunning Armathwaite Hall is nestled in the Lake District countryside - and it's only eight miles away from the quaint tourist town of Keswick. With a view of the breathtaking Bassenthwaite Lake, it truly feels as though you're secluded in your own country paradise.

Armathwaite Hall
Armathwaite Hall really is a beautiful building - if you're into historic architecture, you'll love it.
The grounds of Armathwaite Hall
Armathwaite Hall was built right next to Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District, and the mountains frame some simply stunning scenery. There's also a (not-so) secret pathway from the grounds down to the lake, and on a warm summer's evening is the perfect spot to watch the sun go down.
Armathwaite Hall's rooms
We were lucky enough to stay in the gorgeous Deluxe Lake View Room - and what a view it was...
Armathwaite Hall's lake view
It shouldn't have been a surprise that the view was beautiful, but pulling back the curtains and seeing this view was absolutely breathtaking. Going on a spa weekend is not something that happens every weekend, and extras like this made us feel truly pampered and refreshed.
Bassenthwaite Lake
The beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake is apparently one of the largest in the Lake District, and is the most northerly. You can get down to the lake thanks to a path in the grounds of the hotel, should you so wish.
Armathwaite Hall - The spa
Armathwaite Hall homes The Spa at Armathwaite Hall in part of the building, using the renowned Temple Spa's products for some of their treatments. Of course, Temple Spa are well-known for their spa treatments, but the professional, welcoming manner situated in such a wonderful setting matched perfectly. There was a balcony area overlooking the grounds to wind down after your treatment...
Armathwaite Hall
...And a "hush room", complete with comfortable little bed pods which each had a wonderful array of soft blankets to cuddle up in. The room even had complimentary juices and energy bites to ensure guests were feeling their best.
Armathwaite Hall's pool
There are two indoor pools in the spa - a small one with jets and a larger one for keen swimmers. But the crowning glory was the outdoor infinity jacuzzi. Even on an incredibly hot July weekend, the morning was brisk - but sitting in the jacuzzi before breakfast was a wonderful way to start the day.
Food at Armathwaite Hall Hotel and spa
The Lake View restaurant was also a key element to the hotel - the food served was of a very high quality, the service was fantastic and there was even a chef cooking one of the dishes in front of guests in the restaurant. It was all delicious.
