As much as we WANT to become dark and Himalayan salt flavour chocolate lovers (grown-ups?), it’s not that easy. Fancy chocolate bars are usually expensive, less accessible and – let’s face it – can occasionally be a bit underwhelming.

Sometimes, when the sugar craving hits, all we want is a good old-fashioned choccie bar of the type you can buy at a corner shop. There’s nothing wrong with a little indulgence once in a while. And you can still enjoy some of your favourite goodies without splurging too much of your recommended daily calorie intake.

Health benefits of chocolate: the science

Did you know, that apart from being absolutely delicious, chocolate also provides us with some preeeetty sweet health benefits?

One study found that chocolate reduced oxidative stress and inflammation, while also lowering blood pressure. Another study by the University of Aberdeen also reported that those who ate more milk chocolate over an 11-year period were at lower risk of both heart disease and stroke. You heard it here first, eating chocolate is now a life or death matter.

Now before you get too excited, it's important to remember that eating a high amount of chocolate can lead to obesity and diabetes. So, while treating yourself to some choc is absolutely fine – everything in moderation.
