Zayn Malik, 21, shared the #FreePalestine with his 13 million followers, where it was quickly retweeted 141,131 times.
However, while many praised the One Direction singer for lending Palestine his support during the Israel-Gaza conflict, many slammed him for 'taking sides'.
In fact, just moments after it was posted, Israeli fans began blasting the star, telling him to "kill himself" and threatening: "Let me kill you."

Zayn's divisive Twitter post comes after Syco boss Simon Cowell donated £90,000 to the Friends of the Israel Defence Forces at a fundraiser last year.

The One Direction pin-up's comment also coincided with the release of new figures by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), which show that 218 children – some only three months old – have been killed in Gaza.
Children comprise 21% of the Palestinian dead, while another 1,516 have been injured, added Unicef.
The total Palestinian death toll rose to 1,058 on Sunday after 147 bodies were recovered from ruined buildings the previous day. Israel announced that another soldier was killed, bringing its total military losses to 43.
