It may have been Olly Murs who made that big gaffe on The X Factor last year, but it seems as if it’s co-presenter Caroline Flack who’s paying the price.

According to reports, Simon Cowell has fired the former Xtra Factor host, after the negative feedback she received from audiences.

She will, therefore, not be returning to the show later this year.

A show source said: "Caroline's a really experienced broadcaster but the combination of two presenters just didn't work out this year.

"It's unfortunate for her, but the decision gives her the opportunity to take on a major West End role, which is something she's wanted for a long time."

Nick’s spokesman confirmed the news to The Sun, saying: "After careful consideration, Nick’s decided to rule himself out as a judge on this year’s X Factor.

"He loved working on last year’s series alongside Rita, Cheryl and Simon but it was very much a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"He remains a massive fan of the show and is looking forward to watching it this year."

Speaking on his Radio 1 Breakfast Show, the DJ explained there was "no bad blood" about the situation.

"We announced on this show last year that I was going to do X Factor, and maybe now we should say that I'm not going to do X Factor," Grimshaw told listeners.

"I did love it, its not a diss to the show... I loved Simon, and I loved Cheryl, and I loved Rita, I loved everyone that worked on it, and all the boys as well - the mentoring stuff I really really loved.

"I genuinely loved it, there's no bad blood. I just want to watch it on the telly.""

It has been reported that One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, who recently welcomed his first child, will take his place on the panel.

Caroline Flack and Simon Cowell have yet to comment on the reports that she has been asked not to return to the show.
