The 17-year-old, who is Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's only girl left in The X Factor, took to Twitter to confirm she and Liam have cooled things off.
But it was reported that 'hook-ups' with axed Charlie were the 'final straw' for Liam, after Lauren was allegedly sneaking into his room while Only The Young were still in the competition.
Replying to a fan, Lauren wrote: "me and Liam are taking a break but it's nothing to do with the stories x [sic]"
A show insider told a UK newspaper: "It was a mutual decision between Lauren and her boyfriend to take some time out of their relationship.

"They haven't really had time to see much of each other since Lauren has been in the X Factor house, so they are going to see how things are once she has finished the show and been on the X Factor tour."
Meanwhile, one of last year's stars, Tamera Foster, who was present at the show last night, is said to have dumped Sam Callahan to focus on her own career.
Tamera, 17, was signed to 55-year-old Simon Cowell's record label following her exit from the show last year.

A source told The Sun: "Tamera had strong feelings for Sam, but she is also very ambitious.
"It wasn't her intention to hurt him, but she knew it was time to move on. Sam is moving on with his career and is still very ambitious so it just wasn't going to work."
