Away from the performances and Shelley Smith’s departure from the show, X Factor hopeful Abi Alton was rushed to hospital after she slipped down some stairs backstage and hurt her back.

The singer was seen leaving the ITV studios strapped to a stretcher, as she was loaded into the ambulance. She had just been told that she had secured her place in next week’s show.

A source told The Sun: “Abi tumbled down six steps and fell badly on her back. She was taken away in an ambulance.”

Presenter Caroline Flack had to explain to the audience and viewers that Abi would not be returning to appear on The Xtra Factor with the rest of the contestants.

She is confirmed to now be back at the X Factor house following a stint overnight. She tweeted: "Out of hospital and thankfully there is no serious damage. Thanks for your lovely messages, im sure will be right as rain in no time xxx"

"Tonight was NOTHING to do with me being pregnant. I had an anxiety attack it's happened a lot in my life"

Her injury is the second blow for an X Factor contestant this week. Miss Dynamix were unable to perform on Saturday’s show due to singer SeSe Foster collapsing and having to be rushed to hospital two hours before the show.

It was initially assumed that she fell ill due to her six-month pregnancy, but SeSe took to Twitter to clear the rumours: "Incase some of you are mis understood, tonight was NOTHING to do with me being pregnant. I had an anxiety attack it's hapned alot in my life," she clarified.

Miss Dynamix were unable to perform on Saturday night's show.

The other members of the girl group were given a free pass to next week, as they were unable to learn SeSe’s section of the routine in time. The decision was met by some boos from the crowd.

SeSe is also returning to the contestants’ house today.
