Speaking ahead to tonight’s first live show, Radio 1 DJ Nick insisted that he’s not going to take any stick from 56-year-old Simon over his boys category.

Nick, 30, told the Daily Star: “I quite like arguing with Simon. It’s all drama and panto out there. Simon is always honest in his statements. It’s quite refreshing to hear someone be that blunt on television.”

He added: “But if he’s dissing my boys then I’ll feel quite protective.”

When asked if he’ll be tempted to throw water over his new boss, Nick responded: “That’s always a classic… or acid.”

Nick’s comment understandably sparked outrage from some, and it’s thought that Simon will not be very happy about it.

Simon is a patron of The Katie Piper Foundation, which model Katie Piper set up after she was attacked with acid by an ex-boyfriend.

A spokesperson for Nick said: “[His] comment about Simon was an off-the-cuff remark and in hindsight he fully appreciates that it was unacceptable.”
