The woman who was given £15,000 towards IVF treatment by late singer George Michael so she could have a baby only found who the donor was six years later.
Lynette Gillard received the money from an anonymous donor after she appeared on Channel 4 game show Deal or No Deal in 2008.
The programme’s former executive producer Richard Osman has since tweeted that Michael called series bosses a few days later to anonymously make a donation for the couple’s treatment after hearing their story on the television.
He posted: “A woman on ‘Deal Or No Deal’ told us she needed £15k for IVF treatment. George Michael secretly phoned the next day and gave her the £15k.”
Lynette had previously posted on Facebook that she always wondered who made the donation but has since replied to Richard on Twitter.
A spokesperson for the show would not confirm or deny if the money had been sent by Michael, saying: “Anonymous donations are kept private in line with the donor’s wishes.”
Lynette’s husband, tool hire boss Steve Davies, appeared on Deal or No Deal in a bid to win £5,000 towards the IVF.
But he only managed to score £3,000, leaving the couple to believe their hopes of paying the future treatment bills were dashed.
Days later, pop star Michael contacted show bosses to pay for the entire cost of the treatment.
George Michael died peacefully in bed at his Oxfordshire home at the age of 53 on Christmas Day this year.
He was found by his partner Fadi Fawaz on Christmas morning and his manager Michael Lippman later said heart failure was to blame.
