Dee, 43, rose to fame after appearing on Benefits Street, and last night viewers, including Katie Hopkins, took to Twitter to blast her for ‘being famous for scrounging.’
However Dee hit back before she went into the house, insisting she doesn’t even see herself as a celebrity.
She told the Daily Star: “I was asked to go in, then I said no, then I was asked again, then I said no. It’s just something I thought I’d never, ever do.
“I am a really humble person, it’s the word ‘celebrity’. I don’t see myself as one as I’ve never called myself one. That’s the bit I can’t get over.”
Dee, real name Deirdre Kelly, knows that viewers might be negative towards her because she’s ‘not a celebrity’, but she said that anyone would do it, given the chance.
She continued: “At the end of the day, if you were given this opportunity, would you take it? I’ve been given it and eventually I’ve agreed to give it ago.”
Taking a swipe at her fellow housemates, Dee hinted that they’ve all probably got money troubles of their own to agree to do the show.
She added: “If you’re going on Celebrity Big Brother you were probably only that tiny but away from going on benefits yourself.”
