Kelly-Marie Stewart has fulfilled her dreams of walking down the aisle - ten years after being diagnosed with a debilitating illness which left her paralysed from the waist down.

The actress, who played Hayley Ramsey in Hollyoaks, was told she had Guillain-Barre Syndrome - an illness where the body's immune system attacks part of the nervous system - when she was 21-years-old.

She lost the use of her legs, relying on wheelchairs and crutches to get around.

But, when James Lovelady popped the question, she knew that she wanted to walk down the aisle herself when it came to her wedding day.

After undergoing weeks of neurological physiotherapy, Kelly-Marie found herself strong enough to make that all-important walk.

And, in an emotional ceremony, she surprised everyone when she took hold of her dad’s arm and walked down the aisle without her crutches.

Speaking with the Liverpool Echo, she said: “I got emotional walking with my dad. I wanted to surprise him as well as James.”

She added: “We only invited close friends and family, so everyone in that room were people who had thought I’d never get out of the wheelchair, they were the people who had been on that journey with me for the last 10 years.

“I was sobbing the day after because I was so happy, but I didn’t want to do it again because it couldn’t have been more perfect.”

Amazing.

Congratulations to Kelly-Marie and James on their beautiful wedding day!
