He just lost out on the winner title after mum-of-two Sam Bailey won this years X Factor and it sounds like Nicholas McDonald has sour grapes. Following his exit from the show Nicholas said in an interview: “Gary never seemed to like me and whenever I gave a good performance he would pick up on the smallest things in the world. I was disappointed with Louis saying, “Vote for Sam and her single everyone” during the final too." Nicholas wasn’t the only person upset by Louis comments. The wannabe singer’s mother said: “As for Louis, I don’t know what that was about and it was rude of him. He should have been supporting his own act and not encouraging the public to vote for their opponent.”

What hasn’t he said about the show since winning in 2010? On one hand Matt Cardle says he is grateful for the opportunities the show has given him and then on the other hand he can't seem to stop criticising it. He said in 2011: “I massively compromised myself for X Factor. I wore yellow trousers and sang Katy Perry’s Firework for f***sake! Singing pop songs without my guitar and covered in make-up didn’t sit right. I hear people in the street saying, ‘here is that guy that won X Factor. I can’t wait for it to just disappear.’”| Not satisfied that he’d made his point, Matt continued: “When I got an advance to keep me housed and fed while making my album. The million pound thing, that’s just fir TV.”

He won the show in 2004 with 6 million votes and his winners song made it to the number one spot in the UK charts but after a year Steve was dropped by his record label Sony BMG. Clearly not too upset about losing his recording contract Steve said: “It’s amazing how many doors close when you part company with Cowell. It’s almost like leaving a mafia family. Simon has such an amazing ego. He believes that if he can’t make you a star, then no-one will. It’s virtually impossible to get any attention once he’s lost interest. When I look back on it all, I’ve no doubt I should have stuck with what I was doing before the X Factor – and I’d probably been better off.”

It’s probably one the most awkward of all the X Factor fall-outs and Katie Waissal did little to diffuse matters. X Factor judge Cheryl Cole put her through to the live shows in 2010 despite her messing up her audition at the judges houses stage of the competition. But later the Call My Name singer revealed in her Autobiography Cheryl, My Story that she “couldn’t stand” the singer at first and admitted that she put Katie through to the live shows because of pressure from Simon Cowell. Cheryl said: “Simon had spent the past two years drumming into me that we needed acts who would be good TV. When I saw Katie perform this time, I had to admit she was certainly that. She was quirky, intriguing and busting to succeed. In short, she had the character and drive it took to withstand the pressure of the show, and so I put her through, even though she messed up when she sang in front of Will.” Clearly upset by Cheryl’s admission, Katie sent Cheryl the following message via Twitter. “@cherylcole thought you were better than this. Shame I trusted you. You live and you learn."

No-one likes to be voted off the X Factor in week one and Lorna was no exception. The singer said on ITV’s Lorraine show that she felt she was let down by the shows styling team. She says: “I wanted to talk to Sharon about the styling but she was too busy. If I liked a dress that was hanging up on my wardrobe line they would say, ‘no,no, hun. Sharon wants you covered up.’ My image was completely changed. I had some middle-aged woman’s wardrobe. I’m 26! Why are you trying to hide me? You’ve hidden me enough. Ouch!

He won the competition in 2005 but Shayne Ward was a little upset that he was excluded from the X Factor 10th anniversary trailer last month. The ‘That’s My Goal’ singer tweeted his disappointment at not being included in the video. “I’ve just seen the new X Factor promo video and yet again it’s like I’m being erased. Yet again it's like I’m being erased slowly from their history. Pathetic, really would love to know why?”

Cheryl Cole lost her cool when her contestant Laura White was booted off during a sing-off with singer Ruth Lorenzo in week five of the 2008 show. The singer who had received outstanding reviews from the judges was shocked at her premature exit from the show. She said in an interview following the evening eviction: “I won’t lie. I did question whether the votes were fixed last night when I got in. Cheryl was really upset because she feels I was one of the strongest singers and she feels robbed. Cheryl said on the Xtra Factor: 'I actually feel numb. I feel shocked. I think it might have been a big tactical if I'm totally honest.”

The Irish singer/songwriter came fifth in the 2011 series of the X Factor and says that the show wasn’t what she thought it would be. Janet Devlin said shortly after leaving the show: “To me the sad thing about X, Factor and it’s brought me down a lot, is the fact that I’ve just been covering other people’s songs. It got to the point where I felt like a Karaoke artist every Saturday night. From the start of the show I wanted to be myself and I didn’t really care, in the sense that I just did what was me. I could have been a puppet and done a lot better but why would I do that.”

TreyC made it into the final twelve in 2010 but hit back at the show when she was voted off following a shock exit. Her father wasn’t happy about her leaving the show and said in an interview at the time: “It’s a fix. It’s as simple as that. I have no idea why Treyc is out. She was easily the best singer and should not have lost to Katie (Waissel). “Lots of things happen behind the scenes so certain contestants are kept in. The show is not about singing, it's a freak show now.” He added: “She knew she was already one down after Simon voted for Katie, but refused to balance the score. There should be an investigation into why Cheryl was allowed to refuse to vote.”
