After attending their first ever state banquet alongside King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William at Buckingham Palace earlier this month, Victoria Beckham is growing hopeful that David’s finally about to achieve his dream of receiving a knighthood in the King’s 2025 New Year Honours.
A source tells Closer, ‘A knighthood would mean the world to David and is something he has always dreamed of. David and Victoria think 2025 could be the year it finally happens. He has a very good relationship with the King, and with the Prince of Wales. They’ve never felt closer to the Royals than they do now.’
The couple were among the special guests at the lavish dinner on 3 December alongside royals and dignitaries, celebrating the visit of the Emir of Qatar and his wife, and David – ambassador for the 2022 Qatar World Cup – looked very happy walking through the East Gallery, beaming at the other guests.
The past year has seen David’s links to the Royal family deepen, with the former England footballer mingling with Prince William at the BAFTA Film Awards. The pair also welcomed new air ambulance helicopters at RAF Northolt in October. David, 49, has also taken steps to bond with Charles over tea at Highgrove gardens and he was crowned the King’s Foundation’s official ambassador after helping to rebuild the charity’s reputation.
While David received his OBE in 2003, his prospects of becoming a Sir looked dismal after his alleged feelings about the honour in emails were leaked in 2017 – with allegations he’d launched into a foul-mouthed rant on learning that he hadn’t received the honour. But eight years on, Victoria is hoping that they’ve moved past the scandal.
‘It's been long enough now since all the drama with the emails so she's hoping it's water under the bridge,’ the source says. ‘For her, being made Lady Victoria would be the ultimate accolade.’
