The mum of four, who now designs creations worn by the likes of A listers such as Eva Longoria and Cameron Diaz, admits that she knew from the beginning it would be a battle to make people in the fashion industry take her seriously.

She said: “For a long time there, I was a bit of a laughing stock. And while everybody was busy laughing, what was I doing? I was laying the foundation to what I have in place now.

“I think that as much as one might say, it has helped, I’m not so sure. I’ve had to overcome lots of preconceptions, and that’s okay.”

And it seems Victoria, 40, really has had the last laugh, as she’s now the head of her brand, which turns over a squillions every year. And she’s married to David Beckham…

Talking to The Business Of Fashion magazine, she explained that she’s still battling to stay ahead of the pack, adding: “ I can get a lot of attention. I don’t have to rely on advertising campaigns. But I don’t like to use that card very often.

“I like to keep my head down, work hard, focus on what I’m doing business-wise. I like to try and control how much I’m seen. I don’t want to go out and be photographed every day.”
