The Beckham name was dragged through the mud yet again last week when the ex-partner of David’s sister Joanne spoke about the devastating impact his dispute with the family had taken, claiming it had led him to consider taking his own life
Former Big Brother star Kris Donnelly, 33 – who split from Joanne last year, just six months after welcoming their daughter Peggy – revealed he took an overdose after he was pushed away from the family and prevented from seeing Peggy.
He said, “There were a load of tablets and I just grabbed as many as I could. I stuffed them into my pocket before saying good night to my parents and going upstairs. I was living my worst nightmare.”
Fans hit out at David, 43, and Posh, 44, in the wake of Kris’ revelations, with one posting online, “I wonder what @davidbeckham would have felt if @victoriabeckham kept his children away from him?”

A source says, “This is incredibly stressful for the whole family. Vic was shocked by Kris’ confession and has admitted how torn she feels, which has only added to her misery. She and David struck up a close bond with Kris and it’s tough to hear of anyone struggling emotionally. It’s also distressing for her to see Joanne upset, so she can’t help but despair at the situation.”
In December, Kris hit out at the footballer in an interview, accusing him of “going back on his word” after reportedly failing to help him gain access to one-year-old Peggy.
The reality star – who was briefly reunited with his daughter at the end of last year – said, “I had a conversation with David and he was concerned I might go to the press and disclose family secrets. We had a man-to-man conversation.
“He gave me his word he’d get Joanne the help and support she needed so that our daughter would have a relationship with her dad – and I promised I wouldn’t speak about the family publicly. Sadly, he’s not a man that sticks to his word. The reality now is he is getting to see Peggy on Christmas Day and I am not.”
And insiders say the bitter custody battle – which led to Kris staging a protest on the doorstep of their London home in January – has caused tension between the couple.

An insider reveals, “Vic desperately wants to resolve the situation, whatever way they can, because it’s extremely hurtful for everyone involved. David is understandably sympathetic to Kris, but Joanne is his sister and pals feel he just wants to stay out of it, whereas Vic is adamant they should intervene and try to devise a plan to sort things out. It’s not surprising things are a bit strained between them.”
Insiders say the former Spice Girl is panicking the drama could also impact on their four children, Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 14, and Harper, seven.
A source adds, “The public backlash against her family is really hurtful and Vic’s main concern is her children and protecting them from it all. They’re really close to their aunt and baby cousin, and it’s only natural they’ll pick up on the strained atmosphere. Kris recently went to the extreme of staging a protest by placing a collage of pictures of himself and Peggy on their doorstep, so naturally Vic worries about the children getting caught up in all the drama.”
To add to her misery, insiders say Posh is also feeling unsettled following Mel B’s shock revelation last week that she’d slept with Geri Horner back in their Spice Girls days, reportedly leading to more tension between the two.
Posh and Mel’s friendship has grown increasingly frosty over the years, with Mel, 43, lashing out at her former bandmate for refusing to join their upcoming reunion tour.
A source adds, “Mel’s sex confession really shocked Vic and she felt it was a bit of a betrayal. She can’t help but feel that any trust the girls had is now broken and that nothing is off limits. Vic was in her early twenties when she met David, so it’s only natural she’d have confided some of her inner-most feelings to her bandmates. She wouldn’t want any of her personal details aired in public.
