Victoria Beckham begs David: ‘Don’t humiliate me’

The Beckham family have just got back from a holiday in Miami, but all is apparently not well

Celebrating 20 years of marriage is a big deal in anyone’s book, but when you’re a hot showbiz couple, it’s even more impressive – after all, divorces are pretty popular in the celebrity world.

So, as David and Victoria Beckham prepare to mark 20 years of marriage on 4 July, we’re told Posh is worried about the big day, because it’s looking like it won’t be the big event she had envisioned.

“Victoria isn’t really looking forward to her and David’s 20th anniversary. It’s really making her feel anxious,” an insider close to the couple told heat magazine.

“David was adamant he didn’t want anything too showy or over the top, so the current plan is that they will have a party for family and close friends at their Cotswolds home – around 100 people – and then go on a family holiday."

"It’s not really what Vic had hoped for.

"They have nothing planned for them to celebrate alone, and the way their schedules are, it’s unlikely she’ll be able to squeeze two nights away into David’s diary. But she’s trying.

“She had wanted to do a vow renewal, but David quickly put a stop to that, as he always said he thought it could be seen as tacky, and their relationship was strong enough to not have to do that.”

The insider adds that while David has agreed to a low-key gathering, Posh – who has four children, Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 14, and seven-year-old Harper with the former England captain – is concerned that he could unintentionally humiliate her by not giving a loving speech about her.

“What worries her most is what David might say at the party – or rather, not say,” says an insider.

“She doesn’t trust him not to embarrass her. He only ever seems to call her an amazing mum, wife or businesswoman – he never says anything like she’s beautiful or sexy, or anything that Vic would love to hear, anything that would say to the world that he loves her.

"And it’s so awkward, because she knows what other people are thinking and saying. David’s compliments seem so guarded, and give the impression that he doesn’t really have anything romantic to say about her – so, in turn, if she stands up and says gushy things about him, it’s going to look pitiful."

"She’ll definitely be asking if she can see his speech beforehand. All she wants is to feel like he thinks she’s still special, and still the only person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.”

When they first got together back in 1997, David, 44, couldn’t stop with the public declarations of love for Victoria, 45, and they were always all over each other when they went out in public.

Mel’s sex claims

Mel B, 43, sensationally revealed last week that she'd had a boozy night of passion with Geri, 46 – who is said to be furious with her, as her daughter Bluebell, 13, could read the story. A worried Mel C, 45, hinted the fallout could ruin the reunion, responding to Mel B's exposé by saying, "That's it then, the tour is off."

Geri’s posh new life

Geri married F1 boss Christian Horner in 2015 and replaced the tongue-poking andpeace-signs with spiritualism sessionsand cookery classes. She has a society neighbour, Lady Joanna Wellesley, and a menagerie of goats and donkeys at her country manor. She also reportedly stopped a photo shoot with the Spices so she could meditate – and her new lifestyle is said to have irked Northern lass Mel B.

Manager fallout

The Spices sacked old boss Simon Fuller in 1997, amid reports he'd had a relationship with Emma Bunton, 43 – which they both denied – but he's involved with the tour in partnership with Mel C's Modest Management agency. He's also responsible for Brand Beckham – which won't sit well with the girls if they reportedly continue to clash with Posh, 44.

Post & Mel B's feud

Fans want a guest appearance fromPosh, but she doesn't get on with Mel B. Mel reportedly described Posh as "a bit of a bitch" in an interview last month, and allegedly told her to "f*** off" during a phone call last year. She then dressed up as her for Halloween. Posh also said the girls used to switch off her mic on-stage!

Nerves over past humiliation

Their 2007 comeback single Headlines was a flop, limping into the charts at number 20, and they fear the same will happen with the tour. Emma suffered anxiety before tickets went on sale, while Geri is reportedly taking singing lessons to avoid embarrassment.

Fury at Jess Glynne payout

Allegedly without the girls' say so, tour managers booked Jess Glynne as their support act, agreeing to a hefty £1.3million fee. The Spice Girls, who are rumoured to be pocketing £2.2m each, are said to be furious, suggesting tensions will rise in the dressing rooms. Jess, however, said she only agreed to the tour as she was such a massive Spice Girls fan and wanted to "hang out" with them.

Wardrobe woes

Stage costumes are causing problems as the foursome struggle to agree whether their fans want to see them wearing their '90s outfits – think Union Jack dresses – or more grown-up attire. While Mel B is apparently "desperate to relaunch herself as an edgy, sexy star to compete with the likes of Rita Ora", Geri wants a more wholesome image to appeal to the older, original fans.

Victoria is still cashing in

It's no secret that money is a big motivation for the tour. But Victoria will still make millions without stepping foot on stage, as she owns an equal stake in the band's brand. This has reportedly caused fury among the band members.

A fifth spice?

The Girls are reportedly discussing having a "fifth Spice". Comedian Jack Whitehall and superfan Adele have offered their services, while The X Factor's Saara Aalto revealed Mel C told her she could join. But would that mean splitting their earnings even further?

Old animosities

Although Emma is seen as the sweet one, she's no pushover. She may have forgiven Geri for quitting the band in 2003, but reveals that she won't stay quiet if the Girls squabble. "I was never afraid to say exactly what I thought. It's still the same now," she said recently.

The couple have had a very tough couple of years, as work and family commitments have seen them spend more and more time apart, putting pressure on their relationship.

But, like all marriages, behind the scenes, things are different, and recently things had seemed to be getting better, with David showing his wife a bit more affection in public.

Then, last week, they went on a brief trip to Paris, with Posh gushing on Instagram that David had bought her a surprise gift – however, when they arrived back in London on the EuroStar, they looked quite distant, as they walked through St Pancras station.

The trip was the first time they had spent some time together as couple in a long while, as they have both been away with work. And we’re told it came at a time when Victoria really needed it, as she’s started to feelostracised by her former Spice Girls colleagues.

The group – Mel C, Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton – recently reformed for a much-anticipated comeback, and Vic declined to be involved. But now, we’re told, Vic’s starting to feel left out after she was cut out of some old photos posted on the band’s Instagram.

“Ever since Vic decided not to be part of the tour, she can’t help but feel the other girls have been making sly digs at her expense and she’s been getting really upset by it,” says the insider.

“It’s been going on since last year – when Mel B dressed up as Posh for Halloween – and the fact that it’s still happening has been niggling at her.

"Vic feels the girls have being unnecessarily cruel to her by cutting her out of all these photos. She thinks it’s really Mean Girls of them.

"Geri was one the most recent one to crop Vic out of a photo, and Vic thought that with her being the most mature one, she wouldn’t resort to being so petty. Mel C has also done it on her Instagram, choosing photos from back in the day without Vic in the shot.

"She understands that she’s not going to be in the tour, but she will always be part of the band and it feels like they are trying to erase her from their history. It’s not just the cropping out of photos, either – Mel B has endlessly dropped shady comments about her not being involved. She feels completely ganged up on.”

We’re told it hasn’t helped that David hasn’t been at home as much as she’d have liked him to be. Last week, heat reported that Victoria had decided it was time for her to have a little fun while David looked after the kids, but it seems their home life has quickly reverted back to normal.

Have Rita and Liam made it official?

“Vic is feeling extra- sensitive right now as she just can’t seem to have any control over David,” we’re told.

“As hard as she tries to implement rules in the marriage, he always breaks them and does his own thing. He wanted to spend more time at home with the kids, but then just a week later was flying off again because of work.

"She knows that’s part of why she is feeling down, and she’s taking it out on the girls a bit. She can’t help but feel a bit of jealousy looking at how much fun they’re having, while she’s at home dealing with the same problems.

"She sometimes feels abandoned by him, and by the girls. It’s like she’s being cut out of more than just a group photo. Right now, she feels completely isolated and alone.”
