It was the wedding the fashion and celebrity world had been waiting for as Brooklyn Beckham and actress Nicola Peltz tied-the-knot last week in a star-studded, £3 million ceremony at her family beach-front home in Florida.
While the guest list included Spice Girls Mel B and Mel C, along with actress Eva Longoria and the entire Beckham family, it was the mother-of-the-groom, Victoria Beckham, 47, who bowled over onlookers in a stunning silver gown of her own design.
And her choice of accessories shed a sentimental light on the day when she chose to repurpose the pear-shaped diamond her husband David, 46, had gifted her on the day of Brooklyn’s christening into a show-stopping necklace.
Sharing her well wishes to her eldest son, 23, and his new bride, 27, on Instagram, Victoria wrote, “Congratulations Mr and Mrs Beckham X Welcome to the family.”
But just days after the wedding, and after months of preparation, pals say with the hype now over and her fifties fast-approaching after turning 48 at the weekend, Posh has been left feeling nostalgic about her own 23-year marriage.
A source says, “After all the excitement from the wedding, Victoria has found herself suddenly and unexpectedly feeling quite sad and nostalgic for the past when her and David were newly married and so in love.
“Seeing the huge fuss that was made over Brooklyn and Nicola warmed her heart, but it also stirred up old memories. She can’t help but feel those halcyon days with David are like a distant memory now and she wonders if they will ever be able to recapture that magic they had between them.
“She’s been joking to pals that she’s on a ‘wedding comedown’ but the truth is she is feeling really low.”
Hailed as one of the first ever power couples, they’d met after David, then one of England’s most-celebrated footballers, fell in love with the chart-topping Spice Girl, after spotting her in a leather catsuit for the music video Say You’ll Be There.
After falling head over heels for one another, the couple – famed for their fashion-forward matching outfits and good looks – dominated headlines.
Their 1999 Robin Hood-themed wedding at Luttrellstown Castle, near Dublin, was the first of a wave of celebrity wedding publicity deals and David and Victoria fast became a multimillion-pound brand in their own right.
And after rising to fame in the Spice Girls, Victoria later confounded critics who’d doubted her fashion inspirations as she shed her pop star image and launched her own hugely successful fashion brand in 2008.
The pair went on to have four children together – Brooklyn, 23, Romeo, 19, Cruz, 17, and Harper, 10 – boosting David and Victoria from a power couple to a world-famous family brand.
But with Brooklyn marrying and the prospect of a near-empty nest looming, the source adds how the shift in the family dynamic has magnified Victoria’s fear of getting older.
They added, “The wedding had been a great distraction for Victoria over her 48th birthday, which she had been doing her best to ignore. She knows that it’s a privilege to get older, but in her line of business, growing older can be extremely stressful.
“She constantly feels as though she’s battling against ageism in the showbiz world, and is desperately trying new things to help turn the clock back. She is getting close to her fifties and it’s causing her anxiety. She is panicking how her life is going to change.”
And while the insider describes David as “relaxed” and comfortable about the life they lead between their lavish family homes in Miami, London, and the Cotswolds, Victoria is said to be longing for their passionate and care-free youth – something she was reminded of this weekend watching Brooklyn and Nicola staring into each other’s eyes as they took their vows.
“Victoria harks back to that heady time when they were both on top of the world in their careers and had this magnetic spark of energy between them. Of course, they still love each other deeply, it’s just that they have moved on to a new stage in life,” the source said.
“Seeing Brooklyn and Nicola reminded Victoria of how easy that was in the early days of their marriage. She wishes she could go back to it, and can’t help but feel she is being left behind.”
