The incident took place in the singer’s home and comes just a year on from the death of his stepson’s death following a jet ski crash and custody battle with ex-wife Tameka Raymond.
Usher Raymond V was reportedly playing in the water with Usher’s aunt Rena Oden, according to a US news source. After spotting a toy in the drain of the pool, he is said to have dove down to retrieve it but his arm got caught in the process.
Aunt Rena is said to have immediately swam down to rescue her nephew but failed to free his arm from the drain. Fortunately, two men working in the house were said to have rushed out, dove into the pool and finally freed the little boy’s arm from the drain.
Reports state that Usher Raymond V was then given CPR before being rushed to hospital.
Usher was not home at the time of the incident but made it in time to ride with his son in the ambulance.
He was later joined by his son’s mother, Tameka, at the hospital.
The five-year-old’s state is currently described as ‘OK’ and doctors are said to be running further tests on the boy.
Usher’s 11-year-old stepson Kile Glover died over a year ago, a fortnight after he was critically injured in a boating accident.
Following last year’s tragic incident Usher found himself locked in a custody battle with Tameka.
He accused the mother of trying to interfere with the time he was allowed with their children under their joint custody arrangement.
Despite denying the charge, Tameka lost the case and was described by Usher’s attorney as ‘incapable of being a proper parent’ and further, a mother with ‘no emotional stability or capacity to bond with [the children]’.
Usher was given full custody of both Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond, while Tameka retained some custodial rights.
