Also shortlisted for the prize were celebrity chef and dad of four Jamie Oliver, TV presenters Ben Fogle and Ben Shephard as well as Tour De France champion Bradley Wiggins.
Last year’s winner was Olympic medallist and father-of-three Mo Farah.
Singer Peter Andre won the prize two year’s in a row back in 2010 and 2011.
Tom won the hearts of the nation when he documented wife Giovanna’s pregnancy with a cute original song and a video showing Giovanna’s growing bump.
The lyrics included adorable lines such as: ‘There will come a morning you will open up your eyes, but it's what you do until that day arrives.
