Tattoo artist Flavia Carvalho is fighting the battle against domestic violence in a unique and beautiful way.

The tattooist decided to cover up the scars of domestic violence survivors completely from the kindness of her own heart. And 100% without charge.

Flavia has helped numerous women reclaim their scars and turn an experience of trauma into something much more powerful.

She first came across the concept when a client entered her tattoo studio with her own scars after a stabbing incident.

The woman was attacked in Curitaba, Brazil, after she turned down a man. He then proceeded to slash her in the stomach.

But Flavia feels entirely fulfilled with her mission to help others who have been through similar situations.

She told Cosmo: "The sense of affection, sisterhood and camaraderie is deeper than I ever imagined.

"It is wonderful to see how [the women's] relationship with their bodies changes after they get the tattoos."
