The former singer, 32, found fame in 2000 when her band Hear’Say won reality show Popstars and she claims each member earned ‘about a million pound each.’

Talking to a UK newspaper, Suzanne revealed she didn’t really know how much she was earning or how much she was spending.

Suzanne said: “I didn’t know how much I earned, and I remember saying to my accountant at one point, ‘I really need to get a computer and a camcorder, can I afford it?’ and she laughed at me and said, ‘Of course you can.’”

It was around that moment that Suzanne’s spending started to get out of control, with her blowing huge amounts of cash on clothes and cars.

She said: “I just thought, ‘this is going to last forever.’ I had a credit card with around 40 grand on it, and at one point my accountant told me I’d bought £20,000 worth of clothes in the space of three months, and none of it was even designer.”

Suzanne even admitted to buying a brand new car then trading it in for another after having it for just one day.

Despite winning Popstars, Hear’Say came to an end just two years after the competition, leaving Suzanne with nothing. She was even forced to give up the keys to her home.

It's taken her eight years to pay off her huge debts, but she says it was a learning curve

“At that point I literally had nothing to show for my efforts,” she said, “No investments, no ISA accounts, no savings, no pensions, nothing.”

Her crazy spending left her in £200,000 worth of debt but, instead of filing for bankruptcy, Suzanne paid every penny back herself.

It’s taken her eight years to clear her debts, but she said it has taught her to be a lot more careful with money.
