Suranne Jones has revealed that becoming a mother has made her understand even more what her character on Doctor Foster has gone through.
Suranne, 38, gave birth to her first child in March 2016 - a son with her husband Laurence Akers.
The former Coronation Street actress has now spoken out about how her feelings towards her character have changed since becoming a parent ahead of the new series of Doctor Foster airing.
The new series will follow Gemma's life two years after the break-up of her marriage.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Suranne said: "Being a wife and a mother made me realise the gravitas of that unit falling apart, because I'd go home at night and I'd have a baby to put to bed.
"So I think it definitely made me realise when two people get together and have a child out of love and then they split... What it is to parent a child and be in each other's lives when you are damaged and hurt without damaging and hurting a child."
Suranne, whose on-screen son Tom Taylor has gone on to star in Hollywood blockbuster The Dark Tower, also revealed that there's a saucy scene which sees Gemma stripping down - which she found a bit daunting as a new mum.

Thankfully, she was taking part in a charity planking contest, and was practising around the set.
She told the publication: "I was exercising a lot on set and taking part in planking for charity.
"Spoiler alert – Gemma takes her clothes off at some point and I'd just had a baby, so a bit of planking helped."
The new series doesn't yet have an official release date, but it is expected to air in September this year.
