Suranne Jones has given birth to a baby boy

The Doctor Foster actress has welcomed her first child

Congratulations are in order for Suranne Jones who has given birth to her first child with husband Laurence Akers.

The couple have welcomed a baby boy after announcing their pregnancy in January.

In a statement to The Mirror her rep confirmed the new arrival saying "Suranne and Laurence were delighted to welcome their son into the world last week."

Suranne is thought to have revealed the happy news in a pre-recorded video during the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards on Friday night, telling the audience “sorry I can't be there but I have a good excuse" as she accepted the best actress award for her role in Doctor Foster.

The BBC series also picked up the award for New Drama at the ceremony, with an overjoyed Suranne saying: “Thank you for voting for us, we start filming the new series in September so we look forward to you seeing that, have a great night.”

Suranne previously said of her pregnancy: “We have been married nearly a year and a half now and what a wonderful way to kind of move our marriage on. We’re dying to celebrate the new arrival.”

Suzanne and Laurence married last August.
