The 50-year-old Strictly Come Dancing judge recently revealed that he and his partner Damon Scott, 35, were hoping to adopt a child together,

He said at the time: “I believe in civil partnerships as it protects each partner.

"Whether I believe in marriage is a different thing. But if it were to protect children we might adopt in the future, I’d definitely do it.”

But, following his comments, Craig Revel Horwood was attacked by vile homophobic Twitter trolls.

He told The Mirror: “Some people have been really horrid and abusive and disgusting. There are kids out there who need education and they need foster homes to go to and they need people who are prepared to love them.

“A gay couple can offer that as much as a straight couple as they can't have children naturally.

“I don’t know what the big fuss is about.”

Craig added firmly: “It is not acceptable when people say, ‘I don’t agree with your sexuality.’

“It is as good as being racist. And that is unacceptable. People have to learn to change and accept human nature.”
