Steve Brookstein leaves X Factor fans outraged with dig at Simon Cowell’s dead mum Julie

We’re used to his bitter tweets about the show that made him famous, but Steve Brookstein took his X Factor criticism too far at the weekend when he referenced Simon Cowell’s dead mother.

Simon, 56, lost his beloved mum Julie earlier this year, and 47-year-old Steve used the music mogul’s tragedy to poke fun at the ITV competition.

Tweeting on Sunday afternoon, Steve scathingly wrote: “X Factor winner’s single will be a charity record and will remind Cowell of his mum. Did I mention it’s for charity? By the way Louisa is 17 [sic].”

Referencing Louisa’s stunning rendition of I Believe I Can Fly, and Simon’s subsequent praise, Steve later added: “X Factor’s scripted ‘Angel’ comment will run again tonight and a mention of people no longer with us (Cowell’s mum) – cue tears [sic].”

Steve won the first series of The X Factor way back in 2004, but was dropped from Simon’s record label when his music failed to perform well in the charts.

Since then he’s used every available platform to spread bitterness about anything Simon Cowell-related – and has even released a book about his experiences.

Earlier this year, Steve took a swipe at host Olly Murs, after the 31-year-old accidentally told contestant Monica Michael she was leaving the competition, when the results had in fact gone to deadlock.

Steve swiped: “Dr Murs, ‘Sorry you have HIV, actually no, sorry I’m wrong. You haven’t. My mistake. Hold on, yes, sorry you have HIV. Sorry.’ #XFactor [sic].”

For someone who claims to hate it so much, it seems Steve NEVER misses an episode of The X Factor…
