In July, marking 20 years (!) since their first single, Wannabe, was released, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner (nee Halliwell) confirmed they would be getting back together for a Spice Girls reunion.
However, the reformed trio – known as GEM – are currently missing two of their key members - Victoria Beckham and Mel C.
Enter: a perfect opportunity for a new talent show.
The girls are apparently in talks to launch a search ahead of their performance in Hyde Park next July.
According to reports, the show could follow the success of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s talent shows How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? and Any Dream Will Do, which sought stars for West End productions of The Sound of Music and Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
The BBC is also currently producing another talent contest, searching for a star to take part in a new Take That musical, with Gary Barlow fronting the Saturday night programme.
According to The Mail on Sunday, The Spice Girls hunt for new singers will involve auditions and heats over five consecutive nights in April next year, which will lead to a live final on BBC1.
Appearing on James Corden’s The Late Late Show last week, Mel B didn’t hold back, joking: “The other two bitches didn’t want to do it.”
Quickly adding: “No, let me correct that — my other two fellow lovely ladies. You know, Victoria [Beckham] is busy with her great fashion line. Mel C is doing her own album.
“They gracefully said, ‘you three go ahead and do it’. We are girl power and we support each other so us three went, OK, well then let’s us three do it.
“I don’t think we could ever replace Sporty or Posh, but I would like to invite some people up on stage with us.”
Would you like to join Mel, Emma and Geri on stage for their reunion?
