According to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, 46-year-old Dimitri Diatchenko allegedly waited for his ex-girlfriend to leave the house before he "skinned the pet, cooked it and ate half of it while sending her step-by-step pictures of what he did.
"When she returned the defendant allegedly told her he would do the same to her."
The actor - who plays the head Russian on Sons Of Anarchy - has reportedly been living with his ex girlfriend for some time following their split.
After his ex told him that they should no longer live together, he allegedly decided to take his anger out on her pet.
He has been charged with one felony count of cruelty to an animal with the use of a knife, and one felony count of criminal threats.
However the actor has since told a reporter from CNN affiliate KCAL in a phone interview that it was a hoax, and that he didn't really eat the pet.
"This is all a misunderstanding. We got into an argument, but I didn't kill the bunny," Diatchenko said.
Instead, he turned the rabbit loose, he told KCAL, and purchased rabbit meat to make her think it was the pet he had eaten.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, North Hollywood Division.
Diatchenko is best known for starring in the Sons Of Anarchy, although he has also appeared in the likes of Bones, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Call Of Duty: Black Ops.
