Sir Bruce Forsyth has blamed Z-list celebrities for a drop in ratings for Strictly Come Dancing – and hinted that the show is set to get a glossy new makeover, a la The X Factor.
Sir Bruce told a UK newspaper: “If you haven’t got good celebrities as we did have for a couple of years... we did go down and it showed.”
So what steps are Brucie and co taking to ensure that this year’s series of Strictly is bigger and better than ever?
“We are going to a new studio. We’ve always been in a studio that is far too slow and small for the entertainment that we need to get over.”
"This series is going to blow everyone away"
He continued: “It should never be in a place that holds less than 3,000 people. That’s excitement and that comes over to the people watching. So I hope we get a bigger studio.”
The 85-year-old TV star, who will, as last year, be taking a short break in the midst of filming Strictly, believes the lack of big name contestants in previous series has caused viewers to become uninterested in the BBC dance show.
“But this series is going to blow everyone away and I cannot wait to get my feet back on the dance floor,” Sir Bruce teased.
It’ll be nice to see him, to see him nice, won’t it?
Stars confirmed for this year’s Strictly so far include Vanessa Feltz, Abbey Clancy and Countdown’s Rachel Riley. We imagine that third name alone will have people tuning in all over the country – the Countdown beauty is a fast favourite with viewers!
