**Simon Thomas took to Twitter to share a picture of his wife an son, as well as a link to his blog, A Grief Shared, as he struggles to cope with the first Mother's Day since his wife died. **

Simon posted a picture of his late wife Gemma and son Ethan, along with the caption: "Mother's Day...without Mum."

The former Blue Peter presenter also shared a link to a blog post in which he recounts a day last week when his son was overcome with grief and 'beside himself' after feeling ill and wanting his mum.

"I could hear him sobbing. I ran back up… I held him and kissed him I asked what was wrong," Simon wrote.

"The words he said next are the words that many a Dad hears plenty of times – 'I want Mummy'. It was the most upset and distressed I’ve seen him since the night mummy died. It was impossibly hard to watch."

In November last year, Simon's wife Gemma went to the doctors to complain about a headache - however after visiting the doctors three times in one week and rushing to A&E, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Three days after being diagnosed the 40-year-old mum passed away.

Simon continued in the blog: "As I lay next to him and held him in my arms all that was reverberating through my mind was this brutal truth – the one thing he craved was the one thing I simply cannot change – I can’t bring his mummy back." Simon also posted a heartfelt tribute to Gemma on International Women's Day. Sharing a beautiful photo of Ethan kissing his mum on Twitter, writing: "On #IWD2018 we miss this wonderful woman so much. Kind, patient, compassionate, loving and a wonderful mum.

"A woman who stood in the breach for those around her who were less fortunate than her and needed help.

"The hole she's left in our lives is immeasurable."
