Simon Cowell has proven himself not to be quite the Mr Nasty he pretends to be as a judge on The X Factor.

The music mogul has come out with some harsh put downs for hopefuls auditioning for his television show but it seems he really does have a kind heart.

The businessman helped a young boy battling cancer by paying for his treatment and then showered him with gifts when he returned home from hospital.

Kian Musgrave, five, flew out to New York to get specialist cancer care and on his return found toys such as a Harrods teddy bear, CuteBot figures and books had been sent from Simon.

Kian’s mother Kat told the Newcastle Chronicle: “Because we spent Christmas and a lot of the new year in New York, we didn’t realise that Simon had bought all of these lovely things.

“Kian couldn’t believe it when all the boxes arrived, his little face lit up.

“Inside the parcels there was a note from Simon, wishing Kian a belated Happy Christmas.”

The young boy has neuroblastoma which affects less than 100 children in Britain and, after a tumour formed, the disease spread to his bones and pelvis.

This is the second time poor Kian has battled the illness.
