Charmayne ‘Maxee’ Maxwell, who shot to fame as part of R&B group Brownstone, reportedly was alone with her son after picking him up from a football game.
The 46-year-old then fell at her home in Los Angeles and cut her neck on broken glass.
According to TMZ, Charmayne was discovered by her husband, producer Carsten Soulshock, around 9pm, and he quickly called emergency services.
But sadly the If You Love Me singer had lost too much blood by this point, and died in an ambulance on her way to hospital.
Police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances.
Mourning her death, Charmayne's brother Brandon Maxwell took to Twitter, writing: "R.I.P my beautiful sister Charmayne "Maxee" Maxwell. I can't even believe I'm typing this right now."
He added: "Bad things happened to the most innocent people. My sister died in the most terrible way and I'm in so much pain right now.
"I can't stop shaking."
The singer's bandmate Teisha Brown also shared her distress on social media.
Alongside a photo of herself with the late Charmayne, she wrote: "I just need to be by you 1 more time on stage MAX! #BROWNSTONE #FOREVER R.I.H. I miss you already!! My heart is so heavy. I LOVE YOU SISTER!!"
And later wrote: "Goodnight MAXEE! I'm gonna take some Nyquil to try and get a full nights rest. I'm trying to be strong, but this isn't easy My Love!
“This is NOT easy! My eyes are severely swollen...my heart is so crazy heavy and I'm trying to hit your high notes on "IF YOU LOVE ME!" #BROWNSTONE #FOREVER I will be listening for your voice...NIGHT."
