For Gavin And Stacey fans, the recent announcement that the show is returning this Christmas for one last episode couldn’t be better. And the news has been made all the more exciting with reports that Sheridan Smith – who played Rudi in the show – is joining the cast too.
The hit sitcom, starring Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, which originally aired from 2007 to 2010, will be back on our screens for a show finale, five years after the last special. But Sheridan’s character Rudi was notably missing from the most recent reunion – potentially due to the fact that Sheridan, 42, had dated the show’s creator and co-star James Corden, before splitting in 2009.
So things could be awkward on set as the actress - whose West End show Opening Night recently closed early – was in an on-off relationship with her on-screen brother for two years before they broke up. And TV host James, 45, would go on to describe Sheridan as “the love of his life”, and say that the break-up left him “heartbroken”.
James is now married to wife Julia, who he shares three kids with, while Sheridan has one son from a previous relationship.
