Serena Williams admits she missed daughter Olympia’s first steps while training for Wimbledon

Serena Williams is devoted to her daughter Olympia - but admitted she missed her very first steps while she was training for Wimbledon.

The athlete took to Twitter to share the devastating news with her fans, admitting she cried when she found out what had happened in her absence.

Venus Williams' sister tweeted, "She took her first steps... I was training and missed it. I cried."

Fortunately Serena's legions of fans were there to lift her up, tweeting back with encouraging comments.

"She missed you winning 23 grand slam titles but will still know you’re the best tennis player of all time," one fan tweeted. "You’ll have thousands of magic moments with her don’t worry."

Another added, "No matter what, you’ll always be the perfect mother to her."

One knowing mum wrote, "My motherhood rule: the first you see is the first time it happened FULL STOP!"

Serena has been hard at work and advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon this week, so it's understandable that she'd miss her 10-month-old daughter's milestone.

The star took to Twitter earlier this month to post inspiring messages to fans, with one reading, "In this moment, 22 was the greatest feeling, but ultimately getting to 23 was even better," referring to her 23 Grand Slam titles.

"Never let anyone put a limit on how far you can go," she finished.

The star, who is married to Alexis Ohanian, makes it clear how much her daughter means to her all the time when she posts adorable snaps and videos of her to social media.

The tot even has her own Instagram with a grand total of 395k followers and Serena regularly posts cute photos to the account.
