A school has posted a note on its Facebook page explaining that it expects parents' to be teaching their children basic life skills such as manners, respect for elders and punctuality at home.
The notice, which has since gone viral, clearly sets out that while the school will provide an academic education, they expect the children's parents to teach their children how to behave in a kind and responsible way.
The note opens with the line: "Dear Parents, we would like to remind you that magic words such as hello, please, you're welcome, I'm sorry, and thank you, all begin to be learned at home."
It then goes on to outline other responsibilities they believe parents' should be fulfilling.
"It's also at home that children learn to be honest, to be on time, diligent, show friends their sympathy, as well as show utmost respect for their elders and all teachers."
"Home is also where they learn to be clean, not talk with their mouths full, and how/ where to properly dispose of garbage.
"Home is also where they learn to be organized, to take good care of their belongings, and that it's not ok to touch others."
Finally, the note concludes by explaining what the school believes their role is in educating children: "Here at school, on the other hand, we teach language, math, history, geography, physics, sciences, and physical education. We only reinforce the education that children receive at home from their parents."
The note has been both praised and critised online - with some people agreeing that parents need to pull their weight and teach their children basic life skills, while others think the note is devisive, and that schools should provide more than simply an academic education.
