As controversial as it is, Ozempic has been a buzzword of 2024, with its use among celebrities skyrocketing over the last 12 months – whether they admit it or not. And now cosmetic practitioner Amar Suchde, of AMS Aesthetics on Harley Street, tells Closer that a distinctive side effect is ‘Ozempic face’ – where a gaunt look is a giveaway of usage.

He says, ‘Ozempic is an injectable medication, originally created for those with type 2 diabetes. It works in that it helps suppress appetite and control cravings, resulting in weight loss.

‘The use of Ozempic has skyrocketed. We’re seeing some celebs being open about using it – and others keeping it under wraps – and showing off their weight loss and leaner physiques. But while the body may look fresher, some people are overdoing it and we’re seeing the excessive weight loss in their faces.

‘“Ozempic face” is characterised by hollow cheeks, a gaunt and saggy appearance. Our face naturally features fat, and the structural component of the facial fat pads is what gives our face its buoyancy and structure. The extreme weight loss eats away at the fat in the face and so it sort of drops. People tend to look much older and hollow, as seen in the photo of Scott Disick below.’

Scott reportedly sought help for his Ozempic use earlier this year. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera and Sharon Osborne are speculated to be using Ozempic.

‘People don’t realise that fat is your friend in your face and makes you look better,’ says Amar. ‘Christina’s face does look more hollow than it previously has done, but I will also say she has likely replenished some of the buccal fat weight loss with fillers to prevent the hollowed-out look.

‘Ozempic can be brilliant for those who need it. But too many people are using it who already have in-range BMIs, or they are taking the weight loss too far. It can leave you looking worse than before.’
