Sarah, 33, took to Twitter to make the exciting announcement, revealing details of her debut single.

Alongside a picture of her cover art, she wrote: “SO excited to finally let you know my DEBUT solo single THREADS will be out on the 7th August. More info soon! [sic].”

Sarah has been working on her album for some time now and she previously confessed it was affecting her relationship.

Speaking to the Evening Standard last year, she said: “Much of it I recorded from my house. Mark [Foster, her boyfriend] being a producer as well, we’ve got a little set-up in one of the spare rooms which we’ve turned into a studio.

“"We don't work well together though. We have creative differences, to say the least. It's good, but we've got to try and maintain each others' roles. If I start trying to produce, it really p*sses him off, and vice versa."

Sarah’s former band mates Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh have all attempted to find success on their own.

Cheryl, 31, broke the record for the female solo artist with the most UK number ones in 2014 year, when her song I Don’t Care topped the chart in October.

News of Sarah’s music comes after it was confirmed she’s the latest star to sign up for ITV soap Coronation Street.
